Malawi to launch student housing PPP
The government of Malawi is set to launch a student housing public-private partnership project (PPP) encompassing 15,000 beds at 3 universities in the southern African state.
Three purpose-built student accommodations (PBSAs) will be offered to the market.
A competitive tender process will be initiated in due course to identify and select private sector firms for the execution of the PPP.
The PBSAs are to be developed at:
- The University of Malawi, Zomba
- Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, Blantyre
- Malawi University of Science and Technology, Thyolo
Each university will act as a contracting authority under the terms of the PPP agreement signed with the selected developer. In return, the housing assets will be developed through a DBFOM arrangement.
The government is being advised on the PPP by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
