Infra Dig – La Caisse on LatAm

As we brace for IJ LatAm 2026 – IJGlobal’s vanguard Latin America infrastructure and energy conference – we're setting the scene with a series of podcasts on the regional market.

This first of this series of podcasts sees IJGlobal editorial director Angus Leslie Melville interview Eduardo Farhat – managing director and head of infrastructure for Latin America at La Caisse (formerly CDPQ) – to hear his views on this vibrant market.

Eduardo will be appearing on a panel at IJ LatAm 2026 we are hosting in 1 Hotel South Beach, Miami, that will run from 2-4 March and serve as a meeting point for the entire industry that focuses on infra and energy across the region.

This podcast runs for almost 34 minutes and sees Eduardo give his views on the market from his perspective as an active investor on the ground, lending his experience through a number of case studies.

This latest episode can be accessed on Spotify (embedded above) as well as through the Amazon service. It is also hosted across a slew of other platforms, open access on all of them.

Eduardo has been working as a principal investor for more than 20 years and doing that at La Caisse since 2019. He is responsible for defining the strategy and running investments for the fund manager across Latin America.

“Latin America offers unique opportunities that are hard to find in other areas,” says Eduardo. “In terms of countries, naturally given size and track record in stable regulatory framework – Brazil has been leading the way in attracting investments in infrastructure.

“Mexico – as part of USMCA – is a natural destination, particularly for us given our Canadian origins, making it a natural relationship. Another country I like to point out is Chile. Chile has been spearheading private equity investment into infrastructure since back in the early 1990s. Other smaller economies such Peru and Uruguay offer specific opportunities.”

Tune in to this latest episode to hear Eduardo talk about the market, drilling down into Verene Energia, the Brazilian electricity transmission company La Caisse acquired in early 2024, and the TAG gas pipeline that it bought in partnership with Engie from Petrobras.
