Infra Dig – CIP on Latin America

With IJGlobal’s seminal Latin America conference – IJ LatAm 2026 – less than 2 months away, Infra Dig turns its focus once again on this burgeoning region.

IJGlobal editorial director Angus Leslie Melville talks to Peter Halmø who leads the Latin American business for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) about the market.

Peter will once again be attending the “Miami Conference” – IJ LatAm 2026 – that will be hosted at its spiritual home One Hotel South Beach on 2-4 March, serving as a meeting point for the industry that focuses on infra and energy across the region.

This podcast runs for a little more than 26 minutes and sees Peter give a market overview, followed by drilling down into some of CIP’s investments.

This latest episode can be accessed on Spotify (embedded above) as well as through the Amazon service. It is also hosted across a slew of other platforms, open access on all of them.

Peter – who is heavily involved in the Growth Market Fund – is an established hand at working in complex markets and driving business in emerging and established technologies.

The fund manager has a strong leaning towards Chile, Mexico and Brazil targeting assets across wind farms, solar energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and decarbonisation initiatives.

“What makes [the region] attractive for me is that Latin America is really blessed with renewable resource,” says Peter. “For Chile, you have the world’s best solar irradiation capacity factors of up towards 40%... and, coming from Denmark, it’s quite impressive.

“You are basically producing 2-3x the amount of energy as you would from a similar solar farm in Denmark. So, that means you’re getting more bang for your buck.

“Renewable energy already is the cheapest in most places across the world and the fact that you have these high capacity factors just make it even more competitive.”
